Arginine is an amino acid which has benefits for the heart, liver and immune function.
Arginine enhances the immune function and is useful for fighting cancer, AIDS and other immune system suppressant diseases. Arginine does this through increasing the size and activity of the thymus gland, (which manufactures T lymphocytes - T cells), these are crucial components of the immune system.
Arginine is also beneficial for liver disorders (for example cirrhosis of the liver and fatty liver) as it aids in liver detoxification by neutralizing ammonia.
With regards to weight and metabolism Arginine is important for muscle metabolism. The amino acid helps maintain a proper nitrogen balance. Arginine aids in weight loss as it facilitates an increase in muscle mass and a reduction of body fat.
Arginine is also useful for arthritis and connective tissue disorders as scar tissue and wound healing is made up of arginine rich collagen.
