On the plus side fish and chips contain a good portion of protein, carbohydrate and fibre plus a good range of vitamins and minerals. However fried food is not good for dieting and most fish and chip shops will fry food twice increasing the proportion of fat and decreasing the positive nutritional value.
An average portion of fish and chips (400g/1lb) will be on average 1,000 calories and 50 grams of fat. This means it is not suitable as part of a weight loss diet. Try halving the portion size and adding a large salad of fresh vegetables.
