The Cabbage Soup Diet

What is the Cabbage Soup Diet?

The Cabbage Soup Diet is a strict seven-day diet that features eating as much cabbage soup as you like, coupled with an unusual and restricted 7-day diet plan.

The diet is restrictive and in most cases, if followed properly, will result in weight loss. The plan is good if you have to lose weight fast, but this weight loss may prove to be temporary once you start eating normally again.

The Cabbage Soup Diet includes nutritious vegetables and fruit, and it is very low in fat. It is important that you go on this diet for only one week at a time. The cabbage soup diet is far too low in complex carbohydrates, protein, vitamins and minerals to continue with for longer than this.

The Seven-Day Cabbage Soup Diet

The Cabbage Soup Diet plan. The recipe for cabbage soup is as follows (please note recipes often vary slightly):

  • Low-calorie vegetables (cabbage, onions, tomatoes)
  • Flavoured with bouillon
  • Flavoured with onion soup mix
  • Tomato juice
You may eat as much of this soup as you like every day. In addition to this, on each day of the seven-day programme, there are specific foods that you must eat.

Day 1 of the Cabbage Soup Diet

  • Eat as much cabbage soup and fruit as you like (except bananas).
  • You can drink unsweetened tea, black coffee, cranberry juice and water

Day 2

  • Eat all the fresh, raw, or cooked vegetables you want (except dry beans, peas and sweet corn).
  • Reward yourself with a big baked potato with butter for dinner.
  • Eat as much cabbage soup as you like.

Day 3

  • Eat as much fruit and vegetables as you like (restrictions of day 1 and 2 apply).
  • Eat as much cabbage soup as you like.

Day 4

  • Eat up to 8 bananas and drink as much skimmed milk as you like
  • Eat as much cabbage soup as you like.

Day 5

  • Have 300-500g of beef or skinless chicken or boiled fish.
  • Eat a large tin or up to six fresh tomatoes.
  • Drink at least 6 to 8 glasses of water - this will wash the uric acid from your body.
  • Eat as much cabbage soup as you like (at least one bowl).

Day 6

  • Eat beef and vegetables today - up to two or three steaks with fresh vegetables (except potato) and salad
  • Eat as much cabbage soup as you like

Day 7

  • Eat as much brown rice and vegetables as you like
  • Drink as much unsweetened fruit juices as you want
  • Eat as much cabbage soup as you like (at least one bowl)
  • Do not eat bread, or drink alcohol or carbonated drinks
