Low fat foods are available from every supermarket now. We now have low fat alternatives for most types of food ranging from desserts to basic food and dishes. With modern processed food the western world has become increasingly overweight, with levels of obesity reaching an all time high.
To address this issue low fat foods have been created to ensure that people do not have to sacrifice taste too much in order to cut down on their fat intake and lose weight.
Many people argue that diets consisting of very low fat foods can be very dangerous as the body requires a certain amount of fat to fulfil basic functions. Conversely others (mainly advocates of low-carb diets) stress that it is not fat that causes us to be fat but the excess carbohydrate we consume.
Regardless of our view point Low Fat foods are here to stay and the popular view that you will lose fat if you eat less of it is ingrained in our society.
